It’s the end of an era in the LAT.
After nearly 10 years, the LAT’s first central team employee has left us for a new role.
Kay Mabin, pictured here, was the first member of the central team to be employed by the LAT, when she initially joined us part time on secondment from the Plymouth Learning Partnership / Schools Finance, back in 2016.
Kay’s office, desk and laptop are shown in the picture below and back in 2016, that was the sum total of LAT HQ. We now have a lot more staff and we take up a lot more space at Salisbury Road!
As our CFO or Chief Finance Officer, Kay has helped to ensure that we stayed financially safe and viable over the last 10 years, as we grew from those small beginnings with 3 original schools and a tiny central team, to an 18 school £40 million business.
Our finance team don’t have an Ofsted process like we do in schools, but every single year they go through a very challenging and rigorous audit process. Year after year we have achieved very positive financial reviews and clean audits, under Kay’s leadership.
Kay leaves the LAT in good shape financially, as she takes up a new role at Princess Yachts.

Times Table Rock Stars
The LAT Spring Term Times Tables Rockstars Battle has now come to an end, and there has been an incredible effort from across all our LAT schools. I am proud of all our children who, together, answered over 5 million questions correctly in just two and a half weeks – a truly phenomenal achievement.
A huge congratulations to Plaistow Hill, who are our champions for the third consecutive time. Their lead was never in doubt, with a school average more than double that of any other school— an outstanding performance!
Well done also to Hooe, who secured second place. There was plenty of excitement in the remaining positions, with Mayflower climbing onto the podium in third place, and Elburton making a strong final push to take fourth place from Shakespeare.
Congratulations to everyone involved, and thank you for taking part in such a fantastic competition. It’s been wonderful to see the children’s growing confidence and speed in recalling their times tables. Their determination is clearly paying off, and these secure foundations will support them not only in their future learning but in everyday life as well.
