Week 2 summer term update – We have lighthouses everywhere… and some news on the LAT’s new CEO!

We have a new interim CEO!

As you may have already seen in yesterday’s all staff email from the LAT Board, Ciara Moran has been appointed as the LAT’s new interim CEO for 12 months from 1st September 2026.

This is really fantastic news for the LAT and I am sure you will all join me in congratulating Ciara and welcoming her into her new interim LAT role.

Lighthouses!!

As promised last week, we have some pictures of lighthouses from across the LAT.

Over the past few weeks, some of our schools have been taking part in the St Luke’s Guiding Lights project.

The Little Lights will be placed around for the city venue for the trail which is taking place across the summer (July to September) and we really hope lots of our families will engage with this activity to celebrate both art in the community and to raise awareness and funds for St Luke’s.

Schools have designed and decorated their own little lighthouse sculpture and in each school children and the wider school community (including local and resident artists) have taken part to create these fantastic artworks.

Here are the finished 3D versions from Hooe, Prince Rock and Knowle.

Elbuton’s work in progress is shown here in the first picture, alongside Widewell’s, who didn’t actually make a 3D version, but they did have a great time making a brilliant 2D version!

Strong foundations in the LAT

During this last week in the LAT, members of the School Improvement Team visited four schools, each with a shared focus: strong foundations.

Strong foundations are never accidental. They are built deliberately—through carefully considered curriculum choices, consistent approaches, a shared understanding by staff, and a relentless commitment to getting the basics right.

While every school operates within its own unique context, the underlying principle remains constant: investment in the fundamentals pays dividends. It not only drives academic success, but also nurtures pupils’ independence, resilience, and readiness to face future challenges.

Super Salisbury Road!

Salisbury Road have been busy again with cross country and quad kids!

Cross Country

Last week, 28 children from year 4,5 and 6 took part in a cross country competition down at Lipson. The children represented the school brilliantly showing unity and respect to each other. They celebrated and helped each other through the mile long course. Great to win some medals, but also put on the blue Salisbury Road PE shirt, that we are all so proud of to wear!

Quad Kids

The following day, 8 children took part in a athletics event. They took part in a 75 metre sprint, a 60 metre (1 and a half laps of an athletics track) sprint, the long jump and the vorex throw.

The team had lots of great finishes, first and seconds and the children were also really brilliant at encouraging not only their own school, but others as well.

Well done Salisbury Road!

Victoria Road…….Working with other local schools!

A budding team of KS1 children ventured up the hill to MAP Primary School last week, to take part in an afternoon of athletics. With the glorious sun beating down, Victoria Road’s children gave it their all. From high jump, to javelin, to bean bag throws, each child – with commendable manners and determination – did their utmost. What impressed us the most was the amazing independence displayed during each sporting activity.

SATs

This time next week, the year 6 SATs will be over for another year.

Good luck to all of our year 6 children who are taking the tests and a big thank you to all of our teachers and teaching assistants, who have worked so hard to help our children prepare.

You will be fine!

‘Believe you can. Together we will.’

Have a fantastic weekend.
