Week 4 spring term update – Marvellous Mayflower…. and some letters from the Secretary of State for Education!

Congratulations to High View and Prince Rock Primary

It’s always nice to get a positive and celebratory letter into your inbox. This week, two of our LAT schools received a communication from Bridget Phillipson, the Secretary of State for Education.

As you can see from the extract above, the letter refers to the excellent outcomes of disadvantaged pupils at Prince Rock and High View last year and it is a real delight to read.

Well done Prince Rock and High View!

Marvellous Mayflower

This week, I had the pleasure of visiting Dave Sammels and the wonderful leadership team at the consistently outstanding Mayflower Academy. As always, it was a real delight to meet both staff and pupils and to see the school in full flow on a Monday morning.

Inclusion has always been at the heart of Mayflower’s work and it has always had a ‘support centre’ in the school. However, it was great to see the various ways in which the school successfully supports ALL its children, both within the mainstream setting and the support centre.

As you can see from these photos, I had a marvellous time!

Well done to Mayflower and keep up the good work.

So what’s happening MAT wise, across the country?

This week I was fortunate enough to spend some time with a group of 50 MAT leaders from across the whole of the UK.

In a series of wide ranging discussions, we talked about Ofsted, inclusion, MAT inspections, falling rolls, challenging finances and the curriculum.

Although we didn’t come up with any simple answers or magic solutions, it was reassuring to know that the rest of the country is struggling with exactly the same issues that we are.

Read your way!

The ‘Read Your Way’ home learning project is due to launch for all year groups (Nursery through to Year 6) in all schools the week beginning Monday 9th February until Wednesday 25th February.

It will run in a very similar style to ‘Maths Eyes’ which our trust schools take part in, bridging the October half term, with ‘Read Your Way’ bridging the February half term.

The focus for the English home learning project is ‘Reading’ as World Book Day closely follows our February half term and as you are aware, this year is the DfE funded ‘Go All In’ National Year of Reading – so, what better way to start this with our children!
