Week 6 spring term update – It’s half term and half way through the school year…… And it’s also time for a well deserved break!

It’s February half term…. and we are half way through the school year!

Well done everyone! You have made it to the half way point in this school year. Thank you for everything you continue to do for the children of the LAT and please make sure you take a break this week and recharge those batteries. Hopefully the weather will improve for our break and for the rest of the year, as the days get longer and hopefully warmer.

Even though I’ve actually been in loads of LAT schools this week for one reason or another, there is no ‘school visit’ report. However there are a small selection of general updates, alongside some news from a number of our wonderful schools, including Widewell, Pomphlett, Woodfield, Elburton, Knowle, Salisbury Road and Ford.

Have a fantastic week.

Simon

Sharing our recent experience of Ofsted with our colleagues across the city

On Thursday this week, Ben Norris, our headteacher at Knowle, was asked to share his recent experience of Ofsted with headteachers and other colleagues from local MATs across the city and the Local Authority. The LAT heads were out in force to support him and as you would expect, he did a brilliant job.

Now we need to just see the final written report, which we hope will come really soon!

Trialling continuous provision in the LAT

Helen, Carly and Julie (the now famous LAT girl band ….. ‘LAT erama’) or more professionally speaking, 3 of our super LAT improvement team, visited 2 LAT schools together, to take a good look at all perspectives of EYFS pedagogy, English and Maths Curriculum.

Their collective view was that what they were seeing from the teams at Pomphlett and Salisbury Road was really incredible and the commitment from the teams and the way they are marrying the research and National Curriculum, along with the active learning and progress of the children was fantastic.

Well done to the teams at Salisbury Road and Pomphlett!

Engaging with the community at Ford Primary

A number of LAT colleagues, including a representative from the LAT Board and a LAT Headteacher, visited Ford Primary this week, to explore their strategy for engaging with community and raising pupil performance.

It was a really positive sharing opportunity, which involved staff, pupils and parents.

Happy Lunar New Year… at Elburton! 🧧

To celebrate Lunar New Year, some of the children at Elburton Primary experienced a master class in dumpling making! 🥟

They were extremely fortunate to have a parent and grandparent from the school, who came in to share their knowledge and skill of how to make the perfect Chinese dumplings, as this is something they would share as part of their New Year’s banquet.

The children had an incredible learning opportunity and lots of fun!

Super success at Pomphlett!

We’re delighted to celebrate an outstanding achievement by Evie Bolt, a Year 6 pupil at Pomphlett Primary School, who has been crowned Devon Cross Country Champion for her age group.

Evie delivered a superb performance to claim the county title, standing out against strong competition from across Devon.

Her success is a testament to her determination, consistency, and commitment to training, as well as her ability to rise to the challenge on race day.

Congratulations, Evie—an inspiring result and a fantastic moment in her running journey. 🏃‍♀️🏆
