Resilience is a key skill we seek to teach our children and it’s one we definitely subscribe to across the wider MAT. We genuinely felt that we had enjoyed a really positive year last year, with some huge successes.
All of our schools with an Ofsted grade finally got to good or outstanding, our overall data was above national and even more importantly, our disadvantaged children outperformed their peers. We really did close that gap as a MAT.
Prior to Christmas, we were nominated for the ‘MAT of the year’ category in the ‘Education Today’ awards. We didn’t win, but we haven’t given up. Our story has been picked up again and we have now made the shortlist in the even more prestigious ‘Optimus Education MAT Excellence Awards’, in the medium sized section for MAT of the year.
If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again!
Well done to us for making that new shortlist and keep those fingers crossed. We won’t find out about the results in this competition until mid June!

The Fabulous world of Ford
This week I was lucky enough to continue my tour of our LAT schools and I spent a marvellous morning at Ford.
I spent some time with Dave Sammels, the school’s executive headteacher as well as Sarah Sandey, the head of school.
I met some lovely children, I witnessed some great teaching and I saw first hand how the school’s learning environment is being slowly, but carefully transformed.

The school and its executive headteacher were very welcoming.

The displays of children’s learning were great.

.…And the teaching I saw was fantastic!

Well done Ford and keep up the great work!

Rowing at Plaistow Hill
Plaistow Hill had staff from the Plymouth Sports Partnership in school this week, providing indoor rowing coaching for their Y5 children.
The children had great fun completing individual and team sprints and as you can see from this picture, so did Mrs Burnett, the school’s headteacher!
Apparently, her team won!

Roman day at Mount Street
The children at Mount Street had a marvellous day of fun as they learned about the Romans.
Could this be a new approach when Ofsted knock on the door?

The South West ‘Youth Speaks’ final
How did our team from Knowle do?
Well, they did amazingly well, but they didn’t win it.
However, they made the final and were a real credit to both the school and the LAT.
Well done boys!

Football success at Elburton
Earlier this week, Elburton’s boys and girls football teams represented the school in a tournament at Stoke Damarel Community College.
The girls team performed brilliantly, only conceding one goal in the whole tournament.
The boys team were the champions and have returned to school with sparkly medals!
Well done to the amazing children of Elburton!
