Week 1 CEO summer term update – The sun is shining and our schools are looking wonderful!

Welcome back to the first newsletter of the summer term.

This week I have had the pleasure of visiting 3 of our wonderful LAT schools, within 2 days.

I went to Mount Wise, Prince Rock and Knowle for various reasons and all 3 were fabulous.

Every time I go to Mount Wise Primary, I always arrive a few minutes early, so that I can drive up to to the Scott Memorial and have a look at the wonderful views towards Mount Edgecumbe, Drakes Island and the Royal William Yard.

I am never disappointed by the view!

Very special visitors to Knowle!!

Following Knowle’s recent inspection, representatives from Ofsted, The South West Regional DFE team and Plymouth City Council, asked us if they could visit Knowle to have a closer look at the fantastic ‘inclusion’ work going on in the school.

I was fortunate enough to join this visit and it was superb!

A senior official from the Department of Education sent the following message to us after the visit, ‘So great to see the amazing work being done at Knowle. Thank you again for hosting us.’

A senior colleagues from Plymouth City Council also said this, ‘Ben what a fantastic visit yesterday. Thank you for hosting us. I love it.  The feedback was extremely impressive.’

Well done to Ben, Josh, Jan and everyone at Knowle!

What a team!

Ofsted in the MAT …. AGAIN!!!!

Ofsted have been back in the LAT!

I have added the Ofsted logo to the left to accompany this update, but I have to say that I just don’t agree with their strap line. I really don’t think they raise standards or improve lives!

We do that in the LAT!!!

Anyway, they have been back in the LAT twice in the last three school weeks.

In the last week before we broke up for Easter, they visited Widewell Primary. This week, they have been in the MAT inspecting PTSA, our teaching school and specifically the work we now do as an approved apprentice provider.

We will let you know how both inspections went in due course!

Maths in the MAT…………………….. at Shakespeare!

All schools within the Learning Academies Trust deliver NCETM’s Mastering Number programme to build strong foundations in maths. It was great to hear all about the sessions at Shakespeare Primary last week, where the positive impact was clear: Pupils are developing deeper number sense and greater confidence in explaining their thinking through the use of sentence stems, alongside regular exposure to and rehearsal of precise mathematical language.

A consistent, structured approach is helping to close gaps and secure solid foundations for all learners.

Excellent work!

So how was the LAT Quiz? ………… And who won it?

Just before we broke up for Easter, 18 teams from across the whole LAT took part in a fun filled evening at the Steel Brew venue in the Royal William Yard.

Mount Street got very, very close to winning the quiz for the 3rd year in a row, but the winners by just 1 point were the Estates team!!!

Well done!!!
